About Hollywood

Hollywood has a Commissioner-Manager form of government. The City Commission enacts Ordinances, the laws of the City, adopts Resolutions authorizing actions on behalf of the City, reviews plans for development, and establishes the policies by which the City is governed.

Our city commission consists of 7 members, one of whom is the mayor. The mayor is elected from the city at large, while the other 6 members of the commission are each elected by their own districts. Our current city manager is George Keller, who runs the day to day operations of the city. The city manager (not the mayor) is the administrative head of the city government and is responsible for the efficient administration of all departments of the city. The city manager is appointed by a majority vote of the commission. Hollywood has a weak mayor form of government, not a strong mayor system, so the role of mayor is largely ceremonial. City Commissioners each have the same authority and ability to bring matters to, and to discuss and vote on matters before the Commission.

Hollywood’s City Charter is currently reviewed every 6 years and the City Charter Review Committee is appointed by the City Commission.
